Reflections

I’m starting a new page to record some reflections I have from time to time. They can be parenting related, content related, work-life related, whatever. Just some little tidbits that might prove helpful, funny, insightful, or even just crazy. Feel free to join me in the conversation!

February 6, 2020 – I’m going to start off with sharing how grateful I am that my jobs allow me such flexibility to be home when I need to be home. I do have to be gone 12 hours one day per week to make that work (yes, I do work other days), but I love that I can pick my children up from school and be there to support them for their school events, when I don’t have rehearsals. I think it’s that flexibility that helps me keep my life in balance.

February 9, 2020 – One of my favorite accomplishments this week was turning my son’s grumpy mood into a more cheerful mood by listing 3 things for which we are grateful.

February 11, 2020 – When you coach your kids on life skills and respectful negotiation (even at a young age), it’s incredibly rewarding to listen to them use those skills while they play and avoiding nasty bickering!

February 23, 2020 – I went to a Ladies Retreat last night run by a fellow parishioner and basketball/piano mom friend of mine. It was really nice and well done; a beautiful way to escape for a bit and chat with other moms in the area. One thing that really stuck with me was her journaling. She numbers everything that she writes down, most of them being things she is grateful for, and she had over 7,000 entries! To look back and see over 7,000 things you’re grateful for — so humbling and enriching. Warms your heart, doesn’t it?

February 25, 2020 – My son had a bad day today. Some of his classmates had said some really mean things to him. When my daughter heard about it later that night, she said, “They can’t do that! I’m the only one allowed to pick on him!” I actually was really touched by what she said. Siblings don’t always get along, but the love is always there. And that warms my heart!
